7 Topics for Your New Blog

Blogging is still (yes, even in 2020) one of the best ways to boost your search engine ranking. It’s an invaluable tool that can lead to more people seeing your content, visiting your website, and buying your products.

But it can be super hard to regularly come up with ideas to keep your blog going, and on a regular schedule, especially when you feel like you’ve already posted about everything you know. That’s why I’ve put together a list of topics you can work with, to help create top-notch content for your blog!

Share the Tools you Use

It’s always interesting for people to look behind the scenes of an industry they don’t themselves work in. Share the tools you regularly use in your professional life! For me, being a graphic designer, I could speak about things such as Photoshop or Cinema 4D, or even the tools I use to plan and schedule social media content. What do you use in your industry? Post about them!

Expand on the Services you Provide

The chances are, if you’re running a website, you have some form of service or product to offer your visitors. A blog post explaining what you offer is a fantastic way of both getting more content, and giving your audience some extra context on what is it you can do for them. If your services are particularly complex, break them down into different aspects and sections, across multiple blog posts.

Give Out Insider Info

I’m willing to bet that you try to keep up to date with the latest news and developments within your industry. If so, you’ll more than likely be in-the-know much faster than your audience is. This being the case, blog posts with the latest developments and your own take sprinkled in for good measure will do well.

Things You’ve Learnt

As we all go through life, we’re constantly learning and trying new things. Have you found a new way of working? Or did you run an experiment that didn’t work? Detail what you learnt in a blog post! For example, I shared my top tips and advice for freelancers.

Educate your Audience

Being an expert in your industry means you have vast amounts of information stored in your brain that’s just waiting to be shared with your audience. Do you know how to make something? Have a particular way of doing something on Squarespace? Create tutorials and guides to help inform your audience!

Personal Reflection

Maybe take some time away from the business and write a more personal post. If you’ve made a major change in your life, or had an experience that changed the way you look at a particular thing, detail it in a post. Remember, people love to see who’s behind the business, and connect with them on a more personal level.

Write your History

How did you get into the job that you do now? There’s a good chance that alongside the potential customers visiting your website, there are a bunch of people who are also looking to do what you do. Educate them on how you got into this role, and maybe outline some things that you wish you’d known when you first began.

As long as you’re spending time to create blog content that relates to your business, and providing info that will be of interest to your audience, it will help your website climb up the search rankings and boost your SEO. And a regularly updated blog will help to reinforce the idea that you’re an expert in your industry!

Remember though, your blog posts shouldn’t just be posted on your website. Make sure you’re spreading them far and wide on the internet to get maximum exposure. Here’s a handy list of places you NEED to be sharing your blog posts, which will help you to generate backlinks!
